Introduction

You have agreed to take part in a research study about online learning. You will have a short online interview with a researcher. The researcher will ask you some questions.

---

Question One

Thank you for joining me today. First, I’d like you to think about the last time you took a class or learned a new skill online. What was the subject, and why did you choose to learn it that way?

Sample Answer, Question One:

The last online course I took was about digital marketing. I chose it because I wanted to learn at my own pace and fit the lessons around my work schedule. The class was taught by a well-known instructor, and I had heard good reviews about it. I really enjoyed the flexibility — I could pause the videos, take notes, and go back to difficult parts whenever I wanted. Also, the fact that I didn’t have to commute anywhere saved me a lot of time. Overall, the online format suited my learning style perfectly.

---

Question Two

Great. People react differently to online learning. Some find it convenient and effective, while others think it’s harder to stay motivated or focused. How do you personally feel about online learning, and why do you think you feel that way?

Sample Answer, Question Two:

I think online learning works really well for me because I’m a self-disciplined learner. I like setting my own schedule and working independently, so I don’t need constant reminders or supervision. However, I do sometimes miss the social aspect of face-to-face classes — like group discussions and casual conversations with classmates. Still, I think the advantages of flexibility and accessibility make online learning a good choice for me most of the time.

---

Question Three

OK. Some people say online learning gives students more opportunities than traditional classrooms, while others believe it limits real-life experiences. Do you agree that online learning offers more opportunities? Why or why not?

Sample Answer, Question Three:

Yes, I agree that online learning offers more opportunities in many ways. Students can access courses from top universities without having to travel or relocate, which saves both time and money. It also opens doors for people who live in rural areas or who have full-time jobs and can’t attend in-person classes. On the other hand, I understand that it can limit hands-on experiences in subjects like science or art. Still, the variety and availability of online programs are much greater than what most people can access locally.

---

Question Four

Good points. Here’s one last question. Many educators are experimenting with “blended learning,” which combines online lessons with occasional in-person meetings. Do you think this approach is better than purely online or purely face-to-face learning? Why or why not?

Sample Answer, Question Four:

Yes, I think blended learning is an excellent approach. It allows students to enjoy the flexibility of online study while still giving them chances to meet their instructors and classmates in person. Those meetings can help build connections, encourage collaboration, and make learning feel more personal. At the same time, students don’t have to attend class every single day, which saves time and resources. In my opinion, this combination takes the best parts of both methods and makes learning more effective overall.
