מה פנאן? לכתוב חיבור במבחן IELTS או במבחן TOEFL זה פנאן. במבחן IELTS תתבקשו לכתוב 250 מילים לפחות בארבעים דקות בערך ואילו במבחן TOEFL תדרשו(!) לכתוב 300 מילים לפחות בשלושים דקות בערך. מה יותר פנאן? תחליטו אתם. בשני המבחנים יש שתי שאלות כתיבה, כאשר השניה היא משימת חיבור דעה. יש כל מיני וריאציות של שאלות בחלק הזה, אבל אפשר לחלק את כולן לשלושה סוגים עיקריים:
מסכימה לא מסכימה (agree disagree) - השאלה נפתחת בטענה כלשהי ואתם נשאלים באיזו מידה אתם מסכימים או לא.
דיון (discussion) - השאלה מציגה שני צדדים של נושא מסויים ומבקשת מכם לדון בהם / לחוות את דעתכם / לדון פלוס לחוות את דעתכם.
שאלה ישירה (direct question) - שאלה פתוחה, ובה תעסוק הדוגמה בפוסט הזה.
העירייה שלכם, כך מסתבר, החליטה להנציח מישהו חשוב יותר או פחות באמצעות פסל או אנדרטה. מה תהיה הזוכה המאושרת ולמה? זו השאלה. והנה התשובה.
Your city has decided to build a statue or monument to honor a famous person in your country. Whom would you choose? Use reasons and specific examples to support your choice.
Many great people deserve to be honored with a monument in my city, Tel Aviv, but in my view one stands above the rest - the late and great Arik Einstein.
Einstein was not the best Israeli singer, but he was definitely the greatest Israeli singer of all time. What he lacked in his vocal abilities, he more than made up for with his personality - he was a charismatic and charming person, which is part of the reason why he was beloved by so many people in my country. His career spun five decades, the majority of the relatively short existence of Israel. His voice is an integral part of Israeli culture and his songs cross the generational divide and are listened to and enjoyed by people as young as five or six years old and as old as 70 or 80.
Einstein was not only a singer, though, but a talented actor as well. His iconic personality that was a major part in his musical creations was also presented in the films in which he participated, the most well known of which is of course the infamous “Metzitzim”. This seventies movie has recently gained bad press for his depiction of women, but undoubtedly represented one of the facets of Israeli society. Replicas from this film are oft quoted to this day, sometimes by people who were not even alive when the movie hit the big screens.
Finally, Einstein was a big icon in Tel Aviv, his home town (and mine). He lived not far from me in downtown Tel Aviv, and was known later in life for his seclusion. In fact, one of his famous songs is about how he likes to be at home “with tea, lemon, and the old books”. This seeming contradiction in his persona - the outgoing good-looking rock-star meets the shy, weird urban animal - is another reason for his success and why he has a warm place in the hearts of many Tel Avivians and Israelis in General.
It would be just wonderful if the city decided to commemorate Einstein, a truly great Israeli.
